8th October was a festive day for KViK team and students, past and present. We were joined by 200+ guests to mark the 3rd anniversary of starting skill training. It was on “Aayudh Pooja” day in Sept 2013 that the first batch of Electrician training was started. On 8th Oct. 2016, when many businesses and factories were celebrating Aayudh Pooja, KViK’s new dormitory was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Atul Satija, CEO of The Nudge Foundation and Chief Business Advisor of InMobi. In his address to nearly 100 students undergoing training in skills like Computer Basics with Tally, Tailoring, Beautician, Embroidery, Electrical and Water Purifier technology and 200 guests present, Mr. Satija explained how more than 1 lakh boys and girls are entering the Indian job market every month, how traditional schooling is not equipping them to have the skills needed to be employed and how NGOs like KViK are the need of the hour. He lauded the methodology of “Learning by Doing”, Quality tool called “5Ss” and soft-skill training of KViK has enabled more than 400 students to secure good jobs, or to become successful entrepreneurs. He hoped that 100s of KViKs will be started to alleviate poverty and make India a country of prosperous people.
Mr. Sreenivas Murthy, IAS, former Principal Secretary, Finance, Government of Karnataka and Mr. S.T.Ramesh, IPS, former Director General and Inspector General of Police, Karnataka, who were guests of honour, addressed the gathering and appreciated the promoters of KViK for their initiative of providing poor youth training in vocational skills and making them employed. They wished growth and more success to KViK.
During the function, KViK’s guest faculty’s contribution was acknowledged by felicitating them by the Chief Guest and the Guests of Honour. KViK staff, who have been trained to perform a “street play” on vocational training, gave a demonstration of it through a group song from the skit.
